Introduction |
|
Housing and transportation costs account for 47% of a household’s current consumption budget. Housing alone represents the single largest component of the investment portfolio of an average Canadian household. Recent opinion polls suggest that housing affordability and the negative externalities of transportation concern Canadians the most. Given the importance of housing and mobility in the lives of Canadians and given the inter-linkages between housing choices and mobility decisions, the Institute of Housing and Mobility (iHM) has been established at the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University to develop market-based solutions for housing and mobility challenges faced by Canadian businesses and households. The iHM strives to: · Foster multidisciplinary and applied research in housing markets and transport by utilizing the state-of-the-art in empirical modelling and simulation. · Establish close ties with the homebuilding, automotive and airline industries, government agencies, and other academic/professional centres of excellence. · Disseminate findings among researchers, industry, government, and media. · Host research seminars, industry networking breakfasts, and workshops. |
